X-Men’s Inde Navarrette Joins Surprising Sci-Fi Movie as MCU Fans Wait for More Rogue News

Kevin Feige announced that Inde Navarrette will be playing Rogue in the MCU’s X-Men film, slated for 2028. Fans have been eagerly waiting for more information about the project since the announcement.
Now, Navarrette has bagged another sci-fi role in Apple TV and Plan B’s The Waffle House Index. Lois Paxton is slated to direct the feature. The script for the feature is penned by Andrew Nunnelly. The script landed on The Black List in 2025, which was a list of the best-liked yet unproduced scripts of the year.
According to the logline that accompanied the script on the list, the story is going to follow a character named Jane, who works the graveyard shift at a Waffle House when her day begins getting worse with one apocalyptic event following another.

It also notes that the Waffle House Index is a measuring system that FEMA uses to determine the severity of a natural disaster. Green (serving a full menu) means there is limited damage to the area; yellow (serving a limited menu) means that power backups are being employed and that there is significant damage; and red (closed) indicates that there is severe damage thanks to the natural disaster.
Why The Waffle House Index is the latest major win for Inde Navarrette
Inde Navarette had been part of some of Hollywood’s fan-favorite productions, like 13 Reasons Why and Superman and Lois. However, having played relatively minor roles, they did not have much of an impact on her career. Her breakout hit, Obsession, has landed her multiple offers. It can be assumed that her being cast in Marvel’s X-Men reboot has only upped demand for her in Hollywood.
In an arena that is dominated by franchise films, reboots, and remakes, Navarrette has proven that she can make a smash hit with a new IP, with relatively little backing. That is exactly the kind of energy that Apple TV might be tapping into by casting her in The Waffle House Index.
