A top White House official has sparked a massive wave of online excitement after jokingly suggesting that rap superstar Nicki Minaj could be the next White House Press Secretary.

Steven Cheung, the White House Communications Director, took to X on Sunday to share a clip of the "Super Bass" singer praising Donald Trump while traveling on Air Force One.

Alongside the viral video, Cheung wrote: "Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary! @NICKIMINAJ"

The playful post immediately caught the attention of both political insiders and Minaj's massive fanbase, known globally as the "Barbz."

The official White House X account quickly joined in on the fun, replying to Cheung's post with a simple "eyeballs" emoji. Meanwhile, Trump adviser Alex Bruesewitz directly appealed to the rapper's followers, posting, "Hey Barbz, what do we think about this idea??"

Minaj herself noticed the online buzz, acknowledging the viral moment by responding with an American flag emoji and a sweating smile emoji.

While the internet quickly ran with the idea, Washington insiders confirm the interaction was entirely a joke. The lighthearted exchange follows the very brief tenure of former press secretary Katie Zacharia.

Furthermore, there is no official process or serious plan to nominate the music icon. Minaj, who moved to the U.S. as a child, is a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago, meaning any actual appointment to a high-level government role remains purely fictional.

Still, the viral moment successfully bridged the gap between pop culture and politics, giving the internet plenty to talk about.

The press secretary position remains vacant, and it may stay that way until the midterm elections have come and gone.

But, who knows, if Minaj accepts the role, then she can keep the public and the White House organized with November 3 just around the corner.
