*Twin Peaks* and *The OA* actor Owain Rhys Davies has died at age 44, his brother announced in a lengthy social media post, which also indicated mysterious circumstances surrounding the performer's death.

In a joint statement with the siblings' father, Rhys Davies' brother, Rhodri, wrote over the weekend that the Welsh actor's death was a surprise to the star's family and friends.

"This news will come as a great shock to many. While there are still questions that remain unanswered regarding the circumstances of his death, our understanding at this stage is that Owain passed suddenly, naturally, and peacefully," Rhodri wrote via the Instagram post (below).

Later, he added, "We will try and share further information in due course as we learn more and begin making arrangements."

Rhodri wrote that "the reach of Owain’s love, friendship, and generosity was vast," and that the "outpouring of messages" the family has received since news broke of his brother's death have "been deeply moving and a testament to the impact he had on so many lives."

"I am incredibly proud that, while he was my brother, he was also a brother to so many others," Rhodri explained. "We know that this loss will be felt by a great many people, and we take comfort in knowing how loved he was."

Rhys Davies was a prolific actor on stage and screen, with his most prominent recent role on television coming in the late David Lynch's 2017 *Twin Peaks *sequel series *Twin Peaks: The Return*, in which he played Agent Wilson in across three episodes.

Shortly after Lynch died in January 2025, Rhys Davies posted a tribute to the iconic filmmaker in an emotional social media post.

"My heart is heavy with the news that David Lynch has passed this morning. David was a visionary like no other who welcomed me into the fold," the actor wrote at the time. "There are no words to truly express my gratitude. He was kind, supportive, a true gentleman with a mega phone in hand. The world has lost a legend. My love and thoughts go to those he held dear and to my fellow extended Lynch family cause that’s what we do in the FBI."

In 2017, after completing his scenes for *Twin Peaks: The Revival*, the actor celebrated by posting a photo with Lynch.

"What a wondrously beautiful thrill ride it was working with this legend. Being welcomed in by the @twinpeaks family of cast and crew was truly an honour and can't thank them enough for allowing me to be apart of this cinematic masterpiece," the star wrote on Instagram in September 2017. "If you ever need to call on me you know what to do....WILSON!!!!"
