‘Today’ Fans React to Craig Melvin’s Surprising Vacation Photo

Craig Melvin‘s vacation update gave some Today fans the ick.
The NBC morning show co-anchor has been absent since Monday, July 20, to enjoy a summer break with his family. Melvin took to Instagram to share an update on his vacation on Tuesday, July 21. “Out of office… Nothing like hanging with the family,” he captioned the upload. “Hope you’re enjoying this summer too.”
The post featured a pic Melvin snapped of his feet while relaxing on the beach. Carson Daly, who has also been absent from Today this week to filmThe Voice, praised Melvin’s beach show of choice in the post’s comments, writing, “At least you got the flip flop right! @olukai is the greatest ever. (Not paid to say that!) enjoy your break my man.”
Others sent Melvin their well-wishes as he continues his Today break. “Enjoy Melvin’s! Well deserved!!” one user said. Another added, “Nothin better than a chill day at the beach!” Someone else shared, “Well deserved! Enjoy this special time with your family.”
Many fans, however, weren’t fans of Melvin’s foot pic. “In this economy? Feet ain’t free, Craig!” one commenter quipped. Another joked, “Good for you and your family… Kid, time for a pedicure.” A different person posted, “Hope no one tries to sell this foot pic!”
Someone else shared, “Yeah, I don’t need to see anybody’s feet. Take it easy Craig.” A separate commenter stated, “Have fun and scrub those feet.” Another person said, “Enjoy and ignore any and all ignorant comments.”

Taylor Twellman Celebrates 'Today' Guest-Hosting Gig
Sheinelle Jones and Willie Geist have been filling in for Melvin and Savannah Guthrie at the anchor desk this week. Guthrie appeared on Monday’s episode of Today before beginning her weeks-long break on Tuesday to film NBC’s upcoming Wordle game show.
On the third hour of Today, former U.S. Men’s soccer player and Apple TVMajor League Soccer analyst Taylor Twellman filled in for Melvin on Monday and Tuesday. Weekend Today‘s Laura Jarrett and NBC’s Savannah Sellers helped fill in for Melvin and an absent Al Roker on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 22.
Melvin’s current Today break comes shortly after an intruder was arrested after breaking into Today‘s Studio 1A. The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Andrew Truelove, was reportedly looking for Roker backstage, but instead lunged at and used a racial slur toward Melvin after being unable to find the weatherman, per TMZ.
Today released a statement shortly after, which read in part, “The person approached anchor Craig Melvin, who alerted security. The individual was detained and taken into custody by law enforcement without further incident. There was no altercation, and no one was injured. Today is cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate the matter. NBC and Today take the safety and security of our employees, talent, staff and guests extremely seriously.”
According to NBC News, Truelove faces a count of burglary in the third degree as a hate crime and a count of menacing in the third degree as a hate crime. Multiple outlets also reported that a Today security guard was allegedly fired as a result of the incident.
