- Milly Alcock says her cape in *Supergirl* uses the same material as Christopher Reeve's costume.
- Reeve debuted as Superman in the 1978 film.
- *Supergirl* opens in theaters on June 26.
Milly Alcock's *Supergirl* cape has some extra juice to it.
After a brief debut in last year's *Superman*, the *Game of Thrones* alum is making her first starring appearance as Kara Zor-El in the new DC film. But she's showing up with something old.
“My cape in this film was remade using material from the original Superman cape,” Alcock revealed on the *Raiders of the Lost Podcast*. “They found there was, like, 16 meters of that material, so yeah, that’s in the back of my cape now.”
Released in 1978, *Superman* starred Christoper Reeve as Kal-El, a.k.a. Clark Kent, a Krypton-born superhero who works as a reporter while also being the Man of Steel. The late actor headlined four *Superman* installments and remains the actor most synonymous with the role.
Alcock is the latest actress to take on the *Supergirl* mantle, following the likes of Helen Slater, Melissa Benoist, and Sasha Calle. Alcock is part of James Gunn's makeover of the DC Universe, and she cameoed in the final scene of Gunn's *Superman*, with the drunk heroine showing up to retrieve her dog, Krypto, from her cousin, Kal-El (David Corenswet).
*Supergirl *director Craig Gillespie recently shared with ** how Corenswet's Superman will factor into his film.
"They have such different upbringings," he said. "Superman hasn't gone through trauma. He came from a very loving family and was almost groomed to be in this role, whereas Supergirl has been through trauma and the role's kind of being pushed upon her at a later age and she's having to adjust to that."

Gillespie continued, "Even though they're cousins, you get this almost older-sibling dynamic, and that can be adversarial at times. He's the gentle guy that wants to reach out and be patient, and she's having to find a way and find herself."
