Seahawks star out for 'multiple months' after being carted off field with injury

The Seattle Seahawks hoped to replace 2025 starting safety Coby Bryant, who signed with the Chicago Bears as a free agent this offseason, with second-round pick Bud Clark,
In Clark's first defensive snap of his second-ever preseason game — an unceremonious 19-16 loss to the Tennessee Titans — the 24-year-old safety broke his right ankle. He remained on the field for a few minutes before being placed in an aircast, as players from both teams knelt around him to show support.
Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Clark will miss "multiple months." This comes right after the coach announced a long-term injury to fan-favorite receiver Jake Bobo.
"I just think, like, to see how our team reacted, I think we had the whole team go out there to give him some love. I think that tells you what everybody thinks about him," Macdonald said of Clark.

He spoke glowingly both of Clark and offensive lineman Mason Richman, who also suffered a long-term injury, right after.
Macdonald: "Two guys that we love, that play our style of ball, that are our types of guys, teammates love them, great teammates, great guys, great football players, they have great futures," MacDonald shared.

"It's a heartbreaker, honestly. We had three heartbreakers this week, which is tough."
Clark was a star at TCU, earning consecutive Second-team All-Big 10 nods before he was selected with the 64th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

He earned the start on Sunday along with the rest of Seattle's second-team defense on Sunday. Clark was expected to open the season backing up 2023 undrafted free agent Ty Okada in the team's vacant safety slot next to Julian Love.
Hybrid defensive back Nick Emmanwori, a star as a rookie, is a question mark to be healthy for the team's opening day matchup against the New England Patriots, a Super Bowl rematch, after he underwent ankle surgery in July.
Seahawks linebacker Connor O'Toole said that the injury took "the life out of the game" when speaking post-game.

"It almost takes the life out of the game," O'Toole shared. "With an injury like that, just to know what he's going to go through, and the pain that he's in, it's bigger than football at that point."
"Your heart just breaks for your brother. So, it takes a minute to kind of regroup as a team. We'll just lift him up, and he'll be in our prayers."
