Sarah Ferguson has been staying at the same chalet in the Austrian Alps in the months that she has remained out of the public eye, PEOPLE can confirm

Sarah Ferguson has been staying at the same chalet in the Austrian Alps in the months that she has remained out of the public eye.
Earlier this week, the former Duchess of York, 66, was tracked down to a mountain hideaway in the area, British newspaper The Sun reported.
Ferguson was last spotted out in public when she was among family and friends at the christening of her granddaughter Athena, Princess Beatrice’s second baby, in December 2025. She had stayed out of the public eye even longer, not attending any events since that September.
Now, PEOPLE confirms that Ferguson has been staying at the same chalet in the Austrian Alps during the months she has largely disappeared from public view, according to a source.
Despite reports that she had spent time at Priscilla Presley’s home, traveled to Ireland and Switzerland or stayed with friends, Ferguson had in fact remained at the alpine retreat throughout that period, PEOPLE understands.

The Sun shared photos on April 16 that showed Ferguson standing outside, dressed casually in a blue jacket, dark pants and a white baseball cap while carrying a tote bag.
It marked the first time that she had been spotted since her ex-husband, the former Prince Andrew, was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office at his temporary home on the royal family's Sandringham Estate.
“Fergie has been keeping an incredibly low profile while high up in the Alps,” a source told The Sun. “The area is absolutely beautiful and it’s very quiet most of the time, so it’s the perfect place for a high-profile figure such as her to lie low when the heat is on.”
Ferguson and Andrew quietly attended the christening of their granddaughter in December, but they were not photographed there.

The former couple — who divorced in 1996 but remained friendly — also skipped the afterparty at a London pub for the celebration honoring Princess Beatrice's youngest daughter.
Ferguson last officially stepped out in public in September 2025, when she and Andrew attended the funeral of the late Katharine, Duchess of Kent, together.
Fergie lost her Duchess of York title when Andrew was stripped of his royal honors by his brother, King Charles, a month later in October.
The former couple was subsequently forced to leave their longtime home at Royal Lodge. Andrew is currently residing at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, while Ferguson is believed to be looking at properties to live in Windsor.
As of January, PEOPLE understood that Ferguson planned to spend time overseas as she reviewed her next moves and considered where she might live long term.

Andrew became the first royal in modern history to be arrested back in February.
The former Duke of York is accused of sharing confidential information with late convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein during his time as a trade envoy for the U.K.
The allegations followed research into a batch of Epstein-related files released by the U.S. Department of Justice on Jan. 30, which included correspondence between Andrew and Epstein, along with Ferguson and Epstein, who had claimed she cut off contact with the financier.
