Authorities have now revealed that four children were also hurt when 42-year-old Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem died after falling from a roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia.
The Cobb County Police Department said that the juveniles, who have not been identified, were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries following the fatal incident on the Goliath roller coaster on Monday, Oct. 12, reported ABC News, ABC affiliate WSB-TV and the New York Post.
Police said that additional information will not be shared because of their ages.
The Cobb County Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Thursday, Oct. 15.
Kariem, of Atlanta, was ejected from the ride — a hypercoaster that reaches a height of 200 feet as well as speeds of up to 70 miles per hour, according to Six Flags Over Georgia’s website — and struck other riders before falling beneath the attraction, police previously said.
Responding officers responding found Kariem beneath the ride, unresponsive and not breathing, according to the department’s statement. An investigation remains ongoing.
A relative told WSB-TV that Kariem was at the park that day to celebrate his niece’s birthday.
Kariem worked as an IT manager at Wesley International Academy, a representative for Atlanta Public Schools confirmed to PEOPLE. He previously worked as an IT specialist and technology teacher at the school, his LinkedIn profile noted.

In a statement shared with PEOPLE, Atlanta Public Schools expressed condolences to Kariem’s loved ones and remembered him as a valued member of the school community.
“Atlanta Public Schools extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Mr. Kariem,” the district said.
Elicia Day, a friend of Kariem’s family, told WSB that the educator had overcome several serious challenges before his death, including cancer and COVID-19. Day also shared Kariem and his daughter survived a car fire just weeks earlier.

Following the incident, a spokesperson for Six Flags Over Georgia expressed condolences to Kariem’s family and said the park was cooperating with the investigation.
“We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today,” the spokesperson said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones. We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected.”
Six Flags Over Georgia is set to reopen as scheduled on Friday, Oct. 16— the Atlanta-area park is currently operating exclusively on weekends — but the Goliath coaster will remain temporarily closed.
“Goliath remains temporarily closed,” the representative said, according to ABC News and local outlet WXIA. “We do not have an anticipated reopening date at this time.”
