Paul Whitehouse was mugged at a cash point while buying medication this week, his wife has revealed.
Dr Mine Conkbayir, who hosts the podcast I’m ADHD! No You’re Not with Whitehouse, wrote on Instagram that she and her husband were having “a horrid start to the weekend” in the wake of him being set upon in Islington, London.
Dr Conkbayir said that Whitehouse had gone out to pick up some medication for her after she had a “bad reaction” to some treatment, when he was targeted by a mugger.
“He did fight back and retrieved his card, with the perp scuttling away empty-handed,” she wrote. “But that’s not the point, is it?”
She continued: “I kept shtum, out of respect, but he just came over, having taken our daughter to football, still frustrated. I asked whether he’d like me to post – he said yes – in the hope that it might help folk to be more aware when out and about.”
Dr Conkbayir added that people must be “super vigilant” while walking the streets in case something similar happens to them.

Whitehouse, 68, is famous for his roles on the classic comedy sketch series The Fast Show, and since 2018 has appeared alongside Bob Mortimer on the gentle fly-on-the-wall show Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, in which the pair traverse Britain finding spots to fish.

He and Dr Conkbayir have been a couple since 2004, and married in 2019. Despite their long relationship, they live in separate homes nearby to one another.
Writing in The Independent last year, Dr Conkbayir explained why she launched an ADHD podcast with Whitehouse after she received a life-altering diagnosis of the condition. On the show, the pair interview other people with ADHD, with guests having included Stephen Fry, Katie Price and Simon Pegg. “It’s having honest discussions about it,” she said. “And what’s also important is having a laugh about it.”
She added jokingly that she and Whitehouse’s relationship has flourished by living separately. “Good for him, let him have his own space,” she said. “I’m sure it’s the only thing that keeps him sane.”
Although they live separately, Dr Conkbayir said that Whitehouse’s help with her ADHD is invaluable to her. “His viewpoint as a cynic comes in really handy, because it’s a good catalyst for actually unpacking ADHD wider,” she said. “We have great discussions as a result of him mucking about and undermining the very notion of ADHD.”
Earlier this year, London mayor Sadiq Khan addressed widespread beliefs that London is unsafe, and said that there has been investment in police numbers to drive down personal robbery statistics, including phone snatching. He said during a radio appearance that this has resulted in a 50 per cent reduction in personal robbery and a 25 per cent reduction in personal theft.
“I’m not complacent,” he said. “We’re going to make more progress.”
