Pat McAfee has hit back on social media at a user who wished him a serious health issue ahead of his appearance on ESPN's 'College GameDay' this weekend.
The former NFL punter turned media analyst has become the subject of plenty of debate since the return of the NFL and college football this year, with McAfee mooted as a potential replacement for Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman in the booth for ESPN's 'Monday Night Football' coverage alongside Joe Buck.
McAfee has also become a prominent, if not the standout, voice on ESPN's 'College GameDay', a development that has been met with dismay by some football fans. On Thursday, McAfee responded to a critic of his on social media.

In the post on X, a user wrote, "I hope @PatMcAfeeShow gets kidney stones or something and can't ruin college gameday this weekend." That prompted McAfee to hit back at the individual with, "This is crazy."
It is not the first time recently that McAfee has been the subject of social media vitriol. Last month, an account named Shane Tuttle wrote a fake post that gained traction on social media, claiming McAfee picked "Team USA" to win the matchup between Texas and Tennessee, a game President Donald Trump attended.
"Strange: Pat McAfee picks President Donald Trump to win the Texas vs. Tennessee matchup on College Gameday," the post read. "'I only root for one team, and that team is TEAM USA'."

The comment section of the post included hateful responses, including a reference to McAfee being assassinated like right-wing political commentator Charlie Kirk, who was killed last year.
In response, McAfee hit back at the fake post: "Woke up this morning... folks were really coming after me for being a really big piece of s--- who has ruined everything. Man... that's the 1st host game pick I've gotten wrong this season... both CGD & MNCD... folks are really pissed off about it.'
He continued, "Then, I keep scrolling &... just some awesome internet happening lately... Last week it was @JonnyRoot_ completely lying about what I said and dropping me into something with potential real life repercussions. This week... @ShaneTuttleNCAA does some of it's finest internetting...

"The good news is, all of these folks that were very excited to believe this DEFINITELY got a follow up about this being fake right? I know this is a scrolling app... once you see something we all just continue on our scrolling journeys... if it gets Community Noted much later on, is @X forcing it back into folks feeds? I'm sure they all know it's not real. The community note probably cleared it all up for the 1,000,000+ folks that saw this.
"Let's check in and see some of the quote tweets..."
McAfee then shared some of the some of the messages he had been sent. "Yea he really does need to get kirked," one user wrote. Another commented, "Just blow him up at this point."
He then replied to his own post and wrote: "That's fun. That's the good stuff. And if I do get 'kirked,' please know that I love my kin and I love ball. Now... Let's have a phenomenal NFL Sunday."
