Mitchel Musso is opening up about missing the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special.

The actor believes that the celebration should have been an actual episode of the show.

Musso says he was offered a chance to appear but it wasn't "presented correctly."

Mitchel Musso is disappointed in the direction of the HannahMontana reunion.

The actor, best known for his run as Oliver Oken on the iconic Disney Channel series, has weighed in on the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, which aired back in March. Musso thinks it was a mistake that the event was a retrospective featuring an interview with Miley Cyrus and performances by her, rather than an actual reunion episode of the show.

"The kid in me was banking on it, like, I can't wait for us to all be on set again, and it just didn't work out that way," he said on The Joe Vulpis Podcast. "Do an episode. Do the show. The set is still there."

Airing from 2006 to 2011, Hannah Montana was a star-making vehicle for Cyrus, who played Miley Stewart, a teenage girl living a double life as famous pop singer Hannah Montana. Musso and Emily Osment played Miley's best friends, Oliver and Lilly, respectively, while the cast also included Jason Earles, Moisés Arias, and Billy Ray Cyrus.

Instead of bringing everyone back to reprise their characters, the anniversary special was hosted by podcaster Alex Cooper with appearances by Selena Gomez and Chappell Roan. Musso and his non-Cyrus family costars didn't participate, and the actor says he was asked but the offer wasn't "presented correctly."

"It's too long of a wait to do it in a way that isn't even close to, in my opinion, correct," he explained. "It wasn't the right thing, and I was busy doing something that was more important. But it would have been way more important if it would have just been an episode, or a movie. It would have been everything. I would have dropped everything."

Even though Musso hasn't acted much in recent years, he thinks he could quickly slide back into being Oliver.

"I'd want to feel the part again," he declared. "I'd want to put on that little polo again and wear the plaid shorts with the goofy shoes—I'd want to play the character."
