Meghan McCain fired back at The View’s Joy Behar after the latter remarked about “mean girls” on the show.

Behar commented on the demeanor of past cohosts in a prior interview.

McCain left the show in 2021, after she and Behar had an infamous on-air spat.

Meghan McCain has once again responded to drama with The Viewdespite asserting that she will not respond to drama with The View.

Days after OG View star Joy Behar, 84, said in a new interview that “mean girls” have sat as permanent cohosts at the talk show’s Hot Topics table in years past, the 41-year-old conservative commentator fired back amid widespread speculation that McCain was one of the prickly panelists the comedian referenced.

“You guys keep asking me for a response and for real, I’m not fighting with an 84 year old,” McCain wrote over the weekend on X in a post that quote-posted Entertainment Weekly’s coverage of Behar’s remarks. (Editor’s note: As is standard journalistic practice, EW has reached out to McCain’s representative for comment in the past.)

McCain, who left The View in 2021 after engaging in numerous on-air clashes — including a notable one with Behar after McCain returned from maternity leave — added that Behar “can say whatever she wants at her stage in life.”

EW has reached out to a representative for The View for comment on McCain’s response.

In a Vulture profile published Friday, Behar said that the current panel of View cohosts (also including Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, and former Donald Trump staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin) “is very good” and maintained that “nobody’s mean over there” right now.

“Over the years, there’s been a couple of little mean girls,” the original View cohost added, despite not naming names on the record.

When the publication asked about her 2021 on-air spat with McCain in which Behar said she didn’t miss the Republican cohost while the latter was on maternity leave, the comedian observed: “I thought, Well, good for you if that’s the worst thing anybody said to you. I wouldn’t say we were having dinner every night, but we got along fine.” (EW reached out to McCain’s team for comment.)

Since leaving The View, McCain has taken numerous shots at her former network home — particularly Navarro. The current Republican View cohost drew McCain’s ire in 2023 after suggesting (within a larger discussion about the legal woes of Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden) that former View stars have also attempted to “influence-peddle” on their famous last names. She did not name names, though McCain and former cohost Abby Huntsman both came from political families thanks to the late Sen. John McCain and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., respectively.

The Citizen McCain host also publicly condemned The View’s high-profile interview with Vice President JD Vance over the summer, calling her former colleagues “s----y” and observing that she felt they couldn’t “get through a segment without yelling” after Navarro and Goldberg shared a somewhat tense moment as the latter tried to throw the show to a commercial break while Navarro spoke.

In a December 2023 interview on The View’s Behind the Table podcast, Haines also took a jab at an unnamed prior panelist that many speculated was McCain.

“I really like that the conversations can be had, and without anyone — and I’m not going to name any names — without getting super defensive or personal, so that when you’re watching it, you don’t feel in a state of anxiety or discomfort,” guest Matt Rogers told Haines of his decision to stop watching The View for a few years, though he didn’t name McCain outright.

Haines jumped in to suggest that “uncomfortable” was the word Rogers was looking for, with the actor continuing: “I had to take a step back from watching it, because I just got anxious at the thought of the conversations that were going to be had. That’s not good. Even if you disagree, I need to hear [your point] to disagree with it, and then think about what I think. It got to a point where I was like, are we having conversations here or are we needing to manage each other, looking for buttons to push?”

Haines then responded by telling Rogers that “it was as uncomfortable as you received it.”
