Jon Stewart will continue to host The Daily Show on Mondays through 2028

Comedy Central announced Stewart’s extension behind the desk on Monday, Oct. 19

The comedian has hosted The Daily Show on Mondays since February 2024, and served as full-time host from January 1999 to August 2015

Jon Stewart‘s time on The Daily Showisn’t over yet.

On Monday, Oct. 19, Skydance Television and Comedy Central announced that the comedian, 63, will continue to host The Daily Show every Monday through December 2028. Stewart will also continue serving as an executive producer of the program.

“Jon Stewart is a generational talent and The Daily Show continues to be one of the most influential franchises on television and a cornerstone of Comedy Central,” said George Cheeks, co-chair and chief content officer of Skydance TV. “We are excited to continue our partnership with Jon and his award-winning news team.”

Stewart will host alongside The Daily Show‘s news team, which includes Ronny Chieng, Josh Johnson, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta, Desi Lydic, Troy Iwata and Grace Kuhlenschmidt. The team will share hosting duties on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Stewart also executive produces alongside showrunner Jen Flanz and Stewart’s longtime manager, James “Baby Doll” Dixon.

Speaking with PEOPLE in July 2026, Flanz, who joined The Daily Show in 1998 as a production assistant, said Stewart transformed how she related to the team. “Jon came, and that was just 16 years together on the front end of his run here. And he’s amazing, such a mentor to me. I always say he’s the smartest person I’ve ever met,” Flanz shared.

“Without trying, he just remembers everything. He must have a photographic memory. I’m not sure. He’s also just nice and down to earth, and it’s so easy to connect with him, I find,” she added. “But he was obviously my boss for 16 years, and I just learned a lot from him about how to make the show resonate with people.”

Stewart served as full-time host the show from January 1999 to August 2015, following Craig Kilborn’s run. Trevor Noah then served as host from 2015 to 2022, and after almost a decade away from the anchor desk, Stewart returned on a one-night-a-week basis in February 2024.

Since 2024, the series has received 15 Emmy nominations and has won twice.

The Daily Show airs weeknights at 11 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central and the next day on Paramount+.
