TheConjuring universe has been terrifying audiences since the franchise began with its first film in 2013.
Starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, the supernatural horror movie centers on the Perron family. Parents Roger and Carolyn Perron enlist the Warrens to help them discover the source of the phenomenon haunting the New England home they moved into.
Inspired by famous personalities in the paranormal community, The Conjuring was also loosely based on real events, and strange occurrences even happened during filming. Joey King, who played one of the five Perron daughters, revealed on The Drew Barrymore Showin February 2022 that she “developed this bizarre, rare, out-of-nowhere blood disorder” on set. After filming wrapped, she explained, “I got home, and I’ve never had a problem with my blood since.”
With spookiness both on- and off-screen, The Conjuring became a smash hit, grossing more than $321 million at the global box office, per Box Office Mojo. Since then, the film has spawned several sequels and spinoffs, including Annabelle(2014), The Nun(2018) and The Nun II(2023), which together make upthe Conjuring franchise.
A fourth Conjuring movie, The Conjuring: Last Rites, premiered in theaters in 2025. Wilson and Vera reprised their roles as the Warrens, joined by series newcomers Ben Hardy and Mia Tomlinson. Expect new installments in the universe, as Variety reported in October 2025 that a prequel is in the works, and HBO is developing a series.

The case continually sees media attention and has been chronicled in various TV specials and films, including the 2023 Netflix documentary The Devil on Trial and Gerald Brittle’s 1983 book The Devil in Connecticut.
