April 21 (Reuters) - The Gates Foundation is cutting up to 500 jobs, or roughly 20% of its staff, over the next several years, and it has opened an external review of engagement with the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing a memo.

The organization started by Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and his then-wife in 2000 is one of the world's biggest funders of global health initiatives. Bill Gates is the chair and board member of the foundation.
