If you thought *Clueless* was a smooth production, ugh, as if!

One of the stars, Elisa Donovan, is calling her time on the beloved 1995 film “very exciting” and “very stressful.”

“Everybody thinks it was this perfect experience that we had — it was not,” she shared on the *Slice of Life Show*. “It was challenging ... A couple of crazies worked on that movie that I don’t want to talk about.”

Donovan did add that there were also some “wonderful” cast members as well. Last year, the actress spoke highly of the late Brittany Murphy.

“She was so special,” Donovan said. “She had this way of making you feel like she was elated to see you every time. It breaks my heart. I wish that she was taken care of better.”

Loosely adapted from the Jane Austen novel *Emma*, *Clueless* starred Alicia Silverstone as Cher, a stylishly popular Beverly Hills teenager. The peak-’90s cast also included Murphy, Stacey Dash, Donald Faison, Breckin Meyer, Jeremy Sisto, and Paul Rudd.

Donovan made her film debut with *Clueless*, starring as Amber, Cher’s high school nemesis. Donovan, Dash, and Faison reprised their roles for the sitcom adaptation of the same name, which ran from 1996 to 1999.

'Clueless' sequel series dead at Peacock

On the *Slice of Life*, Donovan revealed that *Clueless* proved to be further “challenging” for her because she was hospitalized during production because of her battle with anorexia. Donovan explained that, at the time, she felt like the “older sister” to Silverstone and that the two women were finally able to bond on a new level when they reunited at a convention.

“We had a sort of come to Jesus a couple years ago when we actually had time to sit together as adults,” she said. “We got to really break it down, and I was like, ‘Oh my god, that’s how you felt?’ And I was like, ‘Well, listen, sister, I went in the hospital,’ and she was like, ‘What?’”

Silverstone and Peacock were recently developing a *Clueless* follow-up, but the streamer has opted not to move forward with the project, and CBS Studios and Paramount are now shopping the series elsewhere.
