Donald Trump gave a surprising answer when asked whether he trusted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, despite describing their relationship as a "very good" one.
Speaking to Rob Finnerty on conservative news outlet NewsMax on Thursday, Trump responded to the direct question about Netanyahu with, "I don't trust anybody."
"In the world of politics, I don't trust anybody," he continued. Nevertheless, the president praised the US's military alliance with Israel against Iran, dubbing it "very successful".

He also said Israeli officials wanted him to get involved in the country's upcoming election on October 27, saying "they'd like me to be [involved]".
"The people of Israel, they say if I ran for Prime Minister, I'd get 99 percent of them [votes]," he told Finnerty in the exclusive interview.
Asked on Tuesday on the White House lawn whether he intended to endorse an Israeli candidate, Trump replied: "We haven't even thought about it."
When a reporter pressed him and noted his past endorsements, Trump left the possibility open, declaring: "Well, we may be. I may be doing something."

Trump has starred in Netanyahu's campaigns since 2013, back when he was still a businessman and TV personality, he released a video urging Israelis to "vote for Benjamin".
According to Israeli sources close to Netanyahu, Trump was originally supposed to be a centrepiece of the Prime Minister's re-election campaign, but the war in Iran seems to have faltered those plans.

One source from Netanyahu's Likud party told CNN: "Trump's stock in Israel, especially among right wing voters, has weakened.
"An endorsement would not necessarily have helped Netanyahu so much, so he did not invest much in it. It's not as if Trump will endorse any other opponent, so it's nice to have, but it's not a must."
The prospect of no endorsement comes amid reports of an increasingly frosty relationship between the two leaders over the conduct in the ongoing war against Iran.
Netanyahu kicked off the year declaring that he stood "shoulder to shoulder" with President Trump as their countries launched the war on February 28.
By late September, however, as world leaders gathered in New York City for the United Nations General Assembly, Trump and Netanyahu had no plans to meet or even be in the same city during that time.
Netanyahu's schedule in New York included meetings with only a handful of world leaders preceding his address to the assembly, as observers viewed the absence of a liaison with Trump as a sign of growing distrust between the two countries.
