Demi Lovato said her husband, Jutes, has “brought so much joy into my life”

The “Heart Attack” singer said she was grateful to have done a lot of self-work and treatment, as it helped prepare her to accept “the love of my life”

“I do feel like I’ve found my home in him,” she said of the Canadian musician, whom she wed in May 2025

Demi Lovato is reflecting on her husband’s profound impact on her.

The “Heart Attack” singer, 34, joined Kerry Washington for an episode of her Street You Grew Up On podcast, and opened up about her hard-earned peace and happiness and how her husband, Canadian musician Jutes, contributes to both. Lovato and Jutes recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary following their nuptials in May 2025.

When Washington asked how, after grappling with mental health and addiction for several years, Lovato reestablished a sense of peace and calm in her life, the singer attributed her progress to her own introspection and her fulfilling relationship with her husband.

“I’ve also found my partner,” Lovato said of Jutes. “It’s such a gift. He’s brought so much joy into my life.”

In hindsight, Lovato said it was necessary for her to go through a period of self-work, treatment and “soul searching” because it prepared her to accept and be ready for her relationship with Jutes.

“I wouldn’t have gotten to this place had I not put in the work first,” she continued. “I wouldn’t have been able to appreciate the gift of having the love of my life come into the picture had I still been wrapped up in some of the issues that I had had in the past.”

“But I think he brought so much peace and joy and serenity into my life. I’m just so — I do feel like I’ve found my home in him,” she said.

As she’s forging her own career, Lovato said “I value my relationships in my life more than anything,” including that with Jutes, her family and her close friends. Her loved ones give her “structure” and keep her focused, she said.

“But at the end of the day, I don’t come home to an award, you know what I mean? I come home to my dogs and my husband, and that’s what brings me joy,” she said.

Lovato and Jutes were first linked in 2022 ahead of the release of Lovato’s Holy Fvck, when they were spotted holding hands while on an outing. They later made their red carpet debut together in February 2023, and on Dec. 16 of the same year, Jutes asked Lovato to marry him.

The couple tied the knot in May 2025 and recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary, which they celebrated with a trip to Spain.

“You know, I’ve waited my whole life for him,” Lovato previously told PEOPLE of her partner in September 2024. “It’s very grounding to have a partner that is so supportive, so loving, so caring. It’s very easy to stay centered with him because I love him so much and he treats me so amazing.”
