The two dated for about a year after meeting during an *NSYNC interview for a TGIF live special on ABC

Bass said their prom night was a turning point in his journey to accepting himself before coming out in 2006

Danielle Fishel and Lance Bass are throwing it back to 1999!

On Monday, April 20, the actress, 44, shared a video on Instagram and TikTok in which she and the *NSYNC alum, 46, recreated their prom photo.

In the video set to Simple Plan's "I'm Just a Kid," the duo could be seen in what appeared to be the set of Fishel's American Idol Official Podcast.

Fishel donned the same white stappy dress she originally wore on the date, while Bass wore a gray suit.

The two smiled from ear to ear as Bass placed a corsage on Fishel's right hand, then moved closer together to mirror their original snap.

"We recreated our 1999 Prom pic, hoverhand and all (and yes, that’s the ACTUAL dress!) I still don’t know why we didn’t work out!! @americanidol #americanidol," the Boy Meets World alum wrote.

Fishel shared in an August 2022 episode of the Pod Meets World podcast that she went to prom with Bass during her senior year of high school. They dated for about a year.

According to Fishel, they met when she interviewed *NSYNC for a TGIF live special on ABC.

When Fishel had breaks from filming Boy Meets World, she would join the band on tour and visit his family in Mississippi for Christmas.

"Lance and I had a very wonderful, very warm, loving relationship but it was completely lacking of intimacy — intimacy in the romantic sense," Fishel said of the short-lived relationship.

"I held on for hope for way too long that we were going to get back together and get married and have a family … It turns out I'm not Lance's type," she continued.

Bass publicly came out as gay in 2006, appearing on the cover of PEOPLE. He married Michael Turchin in 2014 and welcomed twin babies, Violet Betty and Alexander James, via surrogate in October 2021.

Fishel, meanwhile, married her husband Jensen Karp in 2018. They share two sons together, Adler, 6, and Keaton, 4.

Bass, who broke up with Fishel two weeks after her prom, said that it was the "catalyst" that "made me start to accept myself."

"That is the night Lance talks about ... where he felt like he was hurting me by not being honest with himself or anyone else about what was going on in his life," explained Fishel. "And so it was kind of the impetus for him to say, 'I'm going to end our relationship.' "
