Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese talked up their chemistry and respect for each other's games well before they won the FIBA Women's World Cup together. Still, one last media question about their friendship got under Clark's skin.

Clark had just finished celebrating Team USA's 97-79 win over France in the World Cup final when a reporter squeezed in a question about Reese at the end of the scrum. "Are you guys friends now?” the reporter asked just as the exchange appeared to be wrapping up.

"We always been friends. Don't try to do that. Don't try to do that," Clark fired back. Meanwhile, Sophie Cunningham embraced being called the WNBA's 'sex symbol' by Colin Cowheard.

Clark's expression changed immediately after another attempt at a rivalry storyline was placed in front of her. She shook her head, pointed, and wagged a finger directly toward the reporter while answering.

The freshly crowned Gold medalist walked away while the reporter moved on to Chelsea Gray. But to leave the area, Clark had to pass the reporter again. She seemed to say something else, stopped to stare at him with a disappointed look, then kept walking.

The timing of the question was strange, as Clark and Reese had just spent the tournament showing the opposite of the feud so often projected onto them.

They played key minutes together off the bench and left Berlin with gold medals from their first senior global championship. Clark and Reese kept shutting down the idea that there was any animosity.

During the final, Clark hit a three-pointer with four seconds left in the second quarter to cut France's deficit to two, and Reese immediately let out a huge scream from the bench directly behind her.

Clark finished the championship game with 12 points, three assists, and one rebound in just over 13 minutes, shooting 4-of-5 from the floor.

Reese added three points, three rebounds, one block, and one steal in nine minutes as Team USA completed its title run.

Their chemistry showed up earlier in the tournament when Reese forced a turnover and found Clark for a bucket against Hungary. They worked the pick-and-roll and shared light moments off the court.

When Clark rushed to hide her feet as a camera came into the locker room, Reese and Team USA stars laughed along together to share a unified moment of banter, despite those hoping for hostility.

Both WNBA stars head back to their teams with playoff spots locked up. The Indiana Fever and Atlanta Dream could meet in Round 1 as the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds, both at 26-14.
