Billy Joel shares a rare photo of daughter Della Rose to celebrate her 11th birthday

The singer says fatherhood at an older age has been a joy and keeps him feeling young
Billy Joel is celebrating his daughter Della Rose’s birthday!
On Wednesday, Aug. 12, the “Uptown Girl” singer, 77, shared a photo on his Instagram of his daughter Della Rose as he celebrated her 11th birthday. In the rare photo, Della Rose could be seen wearing a white dress and white sandals, sitting on a large rock by the water.
“Happy 11th Birthday to our Della Rose!” Joel wrote in his caption.
The musician welcomed daughter Alexa Ray Joel in 1985 with ex-wife Christie Brinkley. In 2015, he became a father again with the birth of daughter Della Rose Joel, whom he shares with his fourth and current wife, Alexis Roderick. The couple’s second daughter, Remy Anne Joel, was born two years later.
This past May, Joel shared that his daughter Della Rose had graduated from elementary school. The proud dad shared the exciting news in a sweet Instagram post celebrating her achievement.
“Congratulations to our elementary school graduate! We now have a middle schooler,” he wrote. “Mommy and Daddy are beyond proud of all your hard work and determination.”

“Your first day of school seemed like yesterday. Amazing things are in store for this girl,” added Joel.
Back in 2019, Joel told Rolling Stone that he was happy to become a father again when he welcomed Della Rose and Remy, joking that he would often get mistaken for his daughters’ grandfather.
“I take [them] to school and one of the other parents will go, ‘Oh, your granddaughter’s so cute,’ “ he said. “I still love being a dad. I didn’t know that I would be a father again at this age, but I’m glad I am ... They keep you young.”

In 2025, Joel told PEOPLE that he is “really enjoying” being a dad again later in life. “I love all of my girls. And poetic justice, I had all girls, of course, but I’m really enjoying this a lot. It’s something I was looking forward to all my life, and here I am.”
The singer admitted that he initially thought he was “too old” to have any more children, but when the HBO documentary Billy Joel: And So It Goes was released that year, he shared that raising children again was “such a joy.”
“I have time to be with them … I wanted to make sure that they got everything they needed from me, so I kind of knuckled down and took fatherhood very, very seriously.”
