Anne Hathaway, 43, said in a new interview that she and husband Adam Shulman had “very low” expectations about her getting pregnant again.
The Oscar winner and Shulman have struggled with infertility and a miscarriage.
The couple are the parents of sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6.
Anne Hathaway isn’t taking her growing family for granted.
During a red carpet interview at the New York premiere of The Odyssey, the Oscar-winning actress admitted that she didn’t have high expectations about getting pregnant for a third time.
“There’s always hope until there’s not, but when you get to a certain age, that hope looks like 1 percent to 2 percent,” Hathaway told Access Hollywood. “So we just decided to see where life took us, with a very, very healthy, realistic expectation, which was very low.”
Hathaway, 43, announced last month that she and husband Adam Shulman were expecting a third child. The couple, who married in 2012, are the parents of sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6.

“We’re overjoyed because we just know from personal experience that not everybody gets this,” the Devil Wears Prada 2 star noted. “And certainly not when you want it — sometimes not ever.”
She and Shulman overcame infertility and a 2015 miscarriage before welcoming their sons.
On Tuesday, she told Late Night host Seth Meyers that the couple — both big fans of the NBA’s New York Knicks — are “calling this one our buzzer-beater.”

“It’s amazing,” Hathaway said. “I mean, we knew what we were doing but… we were so shocked it worked!”
The Odyssey actress first shared her happy news with a sweet video in which she smiled as she walked in front of the camera and hugged her belly, while the 1961 Barbara Lewis song “Baby, I’m Yours” played.
Hathaway’s fellow actress Barbra Streisand was excited too.
She congratulated Hathaway and Shulman with a photo of her with the Ocean’s 8 star in 2016, when Hathaway was pregnant with Jonathan. “To Anne & Adam, Congratulations on your pregnancy! Mazel tov, Barbra xo,” Streisand captioned the photo snapped when the two were recording together.

Hathaway told PEOPLE in April, when she was on the cover of the magazine’s World’s Most Beautiful issue, that she couldn’t pick out just one thing she loved most about being a mom.
“I couldn’t imagine identifying a single most,” she said. “Being a mom is just this beautiful ongoing poem that I get to live inside of.”
Hathaway’s new movie — the highly anticipated Christopher Nolan film with a stacked cast including Matt Damon, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Tom Holland, Travis Scott, and more — is in theaters now.
