The streamer plans to adapt all of Rebecca Yarros’ Empyrean books across multiple seasons

In May 2026, Prime Video officially greenlit an adaptation of Rebecca Yarros‘ bestselling romantasy novel, three years after Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan‘s Outlier Society first acquired the rights. According to Deadline, the team also plans to adapt the rest of Yarros’ Empyrean series over multiple seasons.

Yarros, who serves as an executive producer, has expressed her excitement about the adaptation. At a January 2025 event, she revealed that she had read two versions of the script and praised how it captured the spirit of her books.

“I kicked my feet the entire time,” she said in a TikTok video from the event. “I could not be any happier.”

From the cast to the creative team, here’s what we know about the Fourth Wing TV series so far.

What is Fourth Wing about?

While an official logline for Fourth Wing hasn’t been released, it’s expected to be faithful to its source material. Yarros’ book, the first in her planned five-book series, follows a girl named Violet Sorrengail who is forced by her mother to enter the brutal world of Basgiath War College and train to become a dragon rider.

Lisa Joy, who will direct the pilot episode, said during a May 2026 presentation that they’re “building a cinematic world” with the goal of delivering “the series this fandom deserves.” However, Jordan teased that there may be a few surprises along the way.

“We are making sure that this is going to be a exciting show that delivers on all of the things the fans want and some of the things that they won’t be expecting either,” he told Deadlinein January 2026. “But trust me, I know how beloved this franchise IP is ... I feel how much people care about this one. It’s not lost on us.”

Who is in the cast of Fourth Wing?

In October 2026, Prime announced that it had found its Fourth Wing stars.

Deadline and Varietyreported that We Were Liars star Esther McGregor, who is the daughter of actor Ewan McGregor, was picked to play Violet.

Emilio Sakraya will star opposite as Xaden Riorson, Violet’s squad leader and enemy who later turns into her romantic interest. Sakraya’s biggest role to date was playing JC in Netflix’s Warrior Nun.

Is Rebecca Yarros involved in Fourth Wing?

Yarros has been involved in Fourth Wing‘s development from the beginning, revealing in a January 2025 interview with Variety that she had shared the overarching plot of her Empyrean series with the show’s creative team.

“They have the five-book arc and the general big points of what happens in between each book,” said the author, who also serves as an executive producer on the series. “But they don’t have the specifics between Book 4 and Book 5.”
