A vow renewal doesn’t guarantee a marriage will last forever.

Many celebrity couples have chosen to celebrate milestone anniversaries with a vow renewal ceremony, but several pairs have split not long after recommitting to each other. Jelly Roll and Bunnie XO marked their seventh anniversary in 2023 by revisiting the Las Vegas chapel where they initially tied the knot to say “I do” for a second time. Three years later, the pair surprised the public when they split in May 2026.

Other couples made vow renewals an annual occasion, such as Heidi Klum and Seal — who separated in 2012 after nearly seven years of marriage — and Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, who got married in 2008 and finalized their divorce eight years later.

Below, here are nine celebrity couples who split after renewing their wedding vows.

Jelly and Bunnie first tied the knot in 2016 at a Las Vegas chapel and returned to the same location seven years later to renew their wedding vows.

In May 2026, the singer filed for divorce from Bunnie after nearly 10 years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. During a June 2026 episode of her Dumb Blonde podcast, Bunnie shared that the pair were divorcing “on the best possible terms.”

“J is my best friend,” she said. “Like, this isn’t what you guys think this is. Nobody cheated on the other person. It’s literally just we served our purpose for each other.”

“I think I got married eight times to Seal,” she said. “I thought it would be kind of, like, fun. I thought it would be a fest of love. But you know, that doesn’t work either. I tried, you can’t say I didn’t try!”

We both wanted to make sure everything was cool for our family. We will always be family, and we make it work.”
